It is believed that the first Indian rugs were the products of Persian rug makers who immigrated to India in the 16th century under the protection of Emperor Akbar. Known as Mughal carpets, the intricate designs of these rugs were adapted to suit the cultural belief systems and available materials in the Indian cities of Agra, Lahore and Delhi. During these early years, artisans might take as long as 15 years to complete a single rug. The results of these efforts are still prized by collectors today as shining examples of the art of rug making. Kashmir rugs are in especially high demand because of their brilliant jewel-toned colors and complex designs. At Infinity Rug Care, we offer expert care for all types of Oriental rugs, including handmade items from India and the Indian tradition.
